Information from the SPCA General Meeting on September 18th, 2007

SPCA President David Hjelmgren
   - Welcome & Introduction of SPCA Executive Board
39th Ward Alderman Laurino
   - The Ward Office is now offering a "Block Party Package."  The Alderman's office will provide all information and basic needs for operating a block party.  All you need to do is stop in the office.
   - Please volunteer in the Clean N' Green Program.  If any resident of our neighborhood has a project in mind for beautifying our neighborhood, please contact Alderman Laurino.  This could be as simple as planting tulips.
   - Rezmar Update (Sauganash Glen Development):
         * Nothing new to update except to say that the land still remains vacant.
   - Bike Trail - Over 1/2 mile of the proposed trail has been paved.  It is coming along nicely and will be complete after the bridges on Peterson & Rogers are replaced.  In the end, the hope is that this trail will continue into Lincolnwood to Pratt avenue.
   - Please pay attention to the street cleaning signs.  This time of year, due to autumn leaves, the streets are cleaned a little more often.
   - A RED LIGHT camera will soon be installed at Foster & Pulaski.
   - Individual issues regarding personal residences along with city projects that needed to be completed were addressed.
Police Sergeant Bill Kaupert (17th District)
   - Large diverse district - over 45 languages spoken
   - Crime in our district is on the decline.  Burglaries and homicide included.
   - Most serious issue to our community: theft from auto - "don't leave valuables in plain view in your car"
   - Speeding in the community - Will focus on getting a patrol car into our area daily for an hour
   - Long term:  A good chance that cameras will be coming throughout the city in the near future.
SPCA Resident Jack Jacobsen
    - Jack has been a resident of the area his entire life.  His parents' home on Kedvale was impacted by the Bell Oils Fuel Spill.  Jack asked the community for assistance.
    - If you live in the proximity, do you have similar symptoms.
    - If you have any contacts that can help (media?), please let Jack Jacobsen know.
    - To the residents of our community:  TAKE ACTION!
       * It is our responsibility to come to the aid of our neighbors.
(An open letter to the community has been drafted by Mr. Jacobsen - once scanned I will link it here)
Refreshments - Thanks to Chris Kunz & The Refreshment Committee!
