Getting Involved in the Sauganash Park Community

Become a member! (Click here for details)

Since 1941, one of the main goals of the Sauganash Park Community Association (SPCA) is to promote social interests...

Do you have any...  (let us know!)

Block Party Information?
Garage Sale Coordination?
Social Groups (tennis, bridge club, book club, etc) you would like to spearhead?

Why be a member of the SPCA?
   - The SPCA is the voice of our community.  Any issues that are brought to our attention are discussed in detail at bi-monthly board meetings, and then brought to the attention of the appropriate community member(s).  The more dues paying members there are of the SPCA, the stronger and more unified our voice is in the eyes of local politicians and community leaders.  In other words, your civic requests that we present to local politicians are taken more seriously if we represent more families.
   - We need your contribution to pay for our services rendered to the community - including:
        * Snowplowing in the winter after 4" of snow.
        * This website to help keep you informed
        * 4th of July parade and picnic at Sauganash Park
        * Annual Halloween Party at Sauganash Park
        * Annual holiday house decoration prizes during the Christmas season
        * Welcome Wagon folders
        * more

How and when can I get involved?
   - Immediately!
   - Please consider becoming a block captain (link), attend a board meeting, help organize a block party, let us know when someone new moves into the neighborhood so they can be properly welcomed, help lead a community activity, sponsor a club in the neighborhood that others might be interested in (bridge club, poker club, tennis club, etc)...   The opportunities are endless.  Please let us know.  Email SPCA President David Hjelmgren at:  davepro14@gmail.com

What current issues are currently facing our neighborhood?
   - Private Snowplowing - funded by SPCA dues.  Favored by members present at general meeting
   - Speedbumps - Not wanted by most members present at general meeting, although a vocal minority did exist.
   - Zoning: Chicago Public Schools - Did you know that Sauganash Park was split between Sauganash and Solomon elementary schools?  RESOLVED! (see link)

When are the meetings?  (All located at Sauganash Park)
   * There are two general membership meetings per year.  The next meeting is scheduled for April 22, 2008.
   * There are five (5) board meetings per year.  All dues paying members are welcome at board meetings.  Please come if you are interested.
         - 2007-08 dates: 9/11/07*, 11/13/07*, 1/8/08*, 3/11/08*, 5/13/08*.

* Confirmed with Park District

What organizations is the SPCA a part of?
SPCA has memberships in the following organizations:
       1. North River Commission - This is the umbrella organization of most of the community associations in our area.  We are looking for an active representative to attend meetings on behalf of SPCA.
       2. North Park Village - This is the local nature area with recycling services, etc.
              * Thanks to Pat More & Pete Lucier for volunteering!
  Thanks!
       3. CAPS (Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy) - This program focuses on active community patrolling.  We are looking for a representative to attend meetings on behalf of SPCA.
